Keysight/Agilent 3421A Data Acquisition Unit
The Keysight 3421A, formerly from the manufacturer Agilent, is a multi channel data acquisition unit designed for industrial and laboratory environments. It integrates a 5½–4½–3½ digit multimeter together with a built in frequency counter and thermocouple compensation. The unit scans 30 channels and measures DC volts, AC volts, 2 wire ohms, 4 wire ohms and temperature. It also reads and writes digital information and stores up to 30 analog readings internally. The unit achieves a full scale DC voltage accuracy of 0.01 % with a resolution of 300,000 counts. Its built in integrating A/D converter provides 1 μV sensitivity and a common mode rejection rating of 120 dB. The integrating converter design ensures the high noise rejection required for stable operation in industrial environments.
The acquisition unit provides non destructive overload protection at ± 300 V peak to safeguard its internal measurement circuitry. The maximum open circuit voltage across the scanner input is specified at 6.5 volts for safe operation. All performance specifications apply for relative humidity up to 85 % at 30 °C ambient operating temperature. The Keysight Data Acquisition Unit includes a built in thermocouple reference junction to support accurate and stable temperature measurements. An LCD display provides real time visibility of active channels, digital states and self test conditions at a glance. The electronic calibration is enabled through a rear panel switch removing the requirement for manual field adjustments. The front terminals of the unit are connected in parallel with the scanner's common bus for convenient bench top measurements.
The 3421A Data Acquisition Unit offers standard 3 volt and 30 volt AC measurement ranges as default. The Option 020 input card with 10:1 attenuators extends measurement capability to 300 VRMS for AC line voltages. Eight of the ten available channels on the Option 020 card can accommodate the 10:1 divider. The AC converter is average responding and operates in either 3½ digit or 4½ digit measurement mode. The unit features an LCD channel display indicating 30 channels with dedicated power and error status indicators. This unit comes with a replacement warranty as well.
