Keysight/Agilent 34907A Multifunction Module for 34970A/34972A
The Keysight/Agilent 34907A Multifunction Module is a universal, plug-in module compatible with the Keysight 34970A and 34972A Data Acquisition / Switch Units. The multifunction module provides three primary function types in one "earth-referenced" card; these include digital I/O, event counting, and analog output. As a result of combining these three function types into a single card, the multifunction module offers engineers designing compact data acquisition solutions the opportunity to reduce their hardware counts while providing additional flexibility in terms of how signals may be processed within a single platform.
The multifunction module has two 8-bit digital input/output port pairs, one gated totalizer input at 100 KHz, and two ±12V analog outputs. Digital channels can be utilized to monitor the state of switches or to drive external devices such as relay coils, solenoid valves, LED indicators, microwave switches, and attenuator stages when utilizing an external voltage source. The gated totalizer can be utilized for pulse counting from photo-interrupter sensors, Hall effect sensors, and limit switches. Analog output can be used to provide bias voltage levels or setpoint values for power supplies and control loops. Alarms on the digital and counter inputs will be continuously monitored by the unit so that, if desired, events can be captured during time intervals between scans.
Due to its multifunctional nature, the Keysight 34907A is typically employed in environments where many low-level functions require management from a single modular device. Inputs and outputs on the multifunction module can be scanned, read, and written directly via either the front panel of the multifunction module or via communication over the bus, thereby offering control options directly from a connected test rack or computer. The multifunction module also comes with a functional test certificate, which makes it immediately available for inclusion into a measurement or control environment. In addition, it is particularly beneficial for engineers who require compact control of both digital and analog signals. Due to its modular design, it works well in production benches, validation platforms, and retrofit installations where simple modular control of digital and analog signals is required.
