Keysight/Agilent U2653A USB Modular Digital I/O
The Keysight U2653A is a high-speed USB 2.0 (hi-speed) modular digital I/O unit that features 64 optically isolated digital output lines. Designed for industrial control and education, it is small enough to be used independently or as part of a large test system. The high-speed interface transfers data at speeds of 480 Mbit/s. As one of the few instruments available today offering such a high number of digital outputs, the engineer can easily activate many relays, actuators, solenoids, and valve controllers directly from a single device. As a result, the overall complexity of the entire hardware setup will decrease, and there are fewer decisions to make in developing the overall control system design.
All 64 output lines on the U2653A have been provided with robust transient voltage protection of up to 1250 V peak to protect host systems from potentially damaging spikes. The U2653A also features a wide range of externally available supply voltages (from 5 VDC to 35 VDC), which enable control of most common types of actuators typically found in factory automation environments. In addition to providing the ability to control various types of actuators directly, an onboard isolated 5 Vdc power supply is included so that simple function tests may be performed without having to provide an external DC power source. Interrupts allow the system to respond to changes in digital states, requiring less CPU processing time than would be required by constantly polling the states. Furthermore, the U2653A includes a virtual port grouping capability, allowing users to group together any 8 output bits into a single virtual port and then simultaneously control them. Virtual port grouping is particularly useful for coordinating multiple axis movements and/or sending emergency stop commands.
Because of its modular design, connecting the U2653A to software applications is relatively easy due to support of SCPI and IVI-COM standards and compatibility with Keysight's development environments and BenchVue software. A command logger function is also included, which makes setting up automated tests easier by logging and reusing previously set-up test sequences. The modular DIO device complies with USB 2.0 and USBTMC-USB488 standards and therefore provides dependable isolated digital output control without needing to physically re-wire existing hardware configurations.
