HP 11729C Carrier Noise Test Set
The HP 11729C Carrier Noise Test Set is a critical part of phase noise measurement systems that are state-of-the-art. The instrument precisely up converts a reference signal that is external or internal and down converts the test signal to an intermediate frequency to facilitate precise noise analysis. Two measurement modes are available with the noise test set: phase detector and frequency discriminator. The phase detector method locks the test signal to a reference before comparing the two in order to generate an error voltage that is proportional to the phase noise. In the frequency discriminator technique, a delay line and an internal mixer are used to extract the noise information from the signal without external locking.
Able to work with 10 MHz to 18 GHz test signals and +7 dBm to +20 dBm input levels, this 11729C carrier noise test set is suitable for a broad spectrum of industrial automation and telecommunications applications. Design flexibility allows the user to choose either local control using the front panel or remote control using an HP-IB interface, making it easy to integrate into automated test systems. The two-method strategy enables engineers to select the method that best fits their analysis needs, providing precise noise characterization for different conditions.
The 11729C comes with some necessary accessories that enable trouble-free operation. These include a power cable designed to accommodate several power standards, a 50 ohm BNC termination for the intermediate frequency output, and a cable-attenuator assembly for the production of an internal 640 MHz signal. Additionally, an SMA termination is provided for termination of the 640 MHz output in the event that it is not used. All of the accessories are designed to preserve the accuracy of the measurements and to be utilized for the overall operation of the noise measurement system.
