The device features a 5 mm InGaAs sensor element specially developed for near-infrared wavelengths, with an operating range from 800 to 1650 nm and two power ranges: +27 to –70 dBm (1250 to 1650 nm) and +23 to –70 dBm (800 to 1650 nm). The instrument assures accurate results with an overall uncertainty of ±5% ±500 pW under operating conditions, and a display resolution of 0.001 dB/dBm for clear data interpretation.
Built for stability, the 81525A functions at 0 °C to +40 °C, although inputs above 20 dBm of input power are restricted to 30 °C. It is compatible with parallel beam setups and fibers of numerical aperture (NA) ≤0.3, e.g., 9/125 μm and 140 μm core fibers. Noise performance is <500 pW peak-to-peak over the 900–1600 nm range for reliable measurement in varying environments. Linearity is ±0.04 dB and ±500 pW over the +10 to –50 dBm measuring range with correction for greater power levels at ±0.008 dB/10 mW over 10–27 dBm.
This high power optical head is a small device (0.45 kg) that measures 37.5 mm in diameter and 140 mm in length. Because of its lightweight design and dimensions, it is considered both agile and compact, good for easy integration with automated testing systems. The two-year recalibration interval minimizes downtime, while the 20-minute warm-up time ensures operational readiness. Longer uncertainty adjustments for broader wavelength ranges and unique fiber applications are additional performance advantages that offer more versatility in a range of optical test applications.
