VIAVI T-BERD 2000 Handheld Modular Fiber Test Set
The VIAVI T-BERD 2000 has been specifically designed to be an all-in-one modular test system that will allow technicians to install, activate and maintain today's complex fiber optic networks. As an all-in-one device, the T-BERD 2000 houses multiple important field-testing devices, allowing the user to conduct many important testing functions at one time to meet the strict standards of their respective industries. Modular construction allows for the addition of various optical time-domain reflectometers (OTDR), which can be specifically configured for use in passive optical networks (PON), coarse and dense wavelength division multiplexed (CWDM/DWDM) networks, and automated fiber certification. With the T-BERD 2000, users can completely analyze a fiber link, beginning with the inspection of the connector end face to meet IEC standards through to insertion loss, optical return loss and fault location, thereby ensuring the integrity of the entire network.
The primary uses of the T-BERD 2000 are for testing, qualifying and certifying the fiber-optic physical layer in FTTx, PON, access, metropolitan and enterprise network environments. In addition to performing automated bidirectional insertion loss and optical return loss measurements, the instrument also captures OTDR traces. The T-BERD 2000 has additional features that include a built-in broadband optical power meter, a visual fault locator that will identify macro-bends or breaks in the fiber and an optical talk-set that will allow communication between technicians. Therefore, this is a vital piece of equipment for field technicians who need to test, qualify, and validate the performance of their networks.
In terms of operational efficiency, the VIAVI T-BERD 2000 has been designed with ease of operation in mind. The device utilizes a high visibility touch screen interface, as well as the ability to seamlessly integrate data workflows. The Fiber Test Set also provides a number of different connection options, including Gigabit Ethernet, USB, and optional Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. These connection options enable users to easily transfer reports, remotely operate the device, and gain access to cloud-based management systems. By combining the VIAVI T-BERD 2000 with VIAVI’s Test Process Automation (TPA) ecosystem, users can utilize automation to streamline their test processes, collect and store data in one central location, and remove the possibility of manual error from the equation.
