Keysight/Agilent E8401A C-Size VXI Mainframe
The Keysight E8401A incorporates an innovative air distribution system that enables quiet and efficient cooling performance. Its structured backplane design is built to support a comprehensive range of VXI-compatible instruments and modules. The mainframe accepts an input voltage of 90 to 264 Vac across a single continuous voltage range. It operates across an input frequency of 47 to 66 Hz throughout the full input voltage range. The operation at 360 to 440 Hz is not recommended, as leakage currents may exceed defined safety limits. In this frequency range, the maximum allowable input voltage is restricted to 132 Vac.
The C-Size VXI Mainframe delivers 686 W of available power at 90-264 VAC. The usable power remains at 500 W whether the unit is operating on a 90 110 Vac or 110 264 Vac supply. The mainframe supports continuous operation within a temperature range of 0 to 55 degrees Celsius.
It is engineered with mechanical dimensions optimized for standard rack mount installation. The unit stands 352 mm (13.9 inches) tall, which is equivalent to 8 EIA rack units. Its width is 424.5 mm (16.7 inches), and its depth measures 631 mm (24.9 inches). At a weight of 24 kg (53 lbs.), the mainframe is designed for permanent and stable rack-mounted deployments.
The +5VSTDBY bus on the VXI backplane mainframe can receive power directly from the user when operationally required. The standby voltage is maintained within a range of 4.875 V minimum to 5.25 V maximum. The maximum current draw on the +5VSTDBY bus is rated at 1 A for safe operation. Access to the standby supply is provided via pins 8 and 21 of the diagnostic connector.
The E8401A C-size VXI mainframe includes comprehensive power supply protection across all output voltage rails. These protected fault conditions include overtemperature and overvoltage conditions as well as overcurrent and short-to-ground faults. The short-to-other output faults are also fully covered, with the system entering full shutdown mode upon fault detection. The recovery is achieved after the fault condition is removed and the power on/standby cycle is completed.
