EXFO FTB-150 Compact OTDR
The EXFO FTB-150 Compact OTDR is a rugged, handheld platform for complete characterization of the fiber in a variety of network infrastructures, from enterprise to long-haul, metro, and FTTH deployments. It combines EXFO's latest OTDR technology with simplicity of use, with support for up to four wavelengths for testing multimode and singlemode fibers. The instrument features OTDR modules that are field-programmable, including FTB-150-QUAD (850/1300/1310/1550 nm) for testing hybrid networks, FTB-150-FTTx (1310/1490/1550 nm) for PON-optimized access networks, and FTB-150-LH (1310/1550 nm) for long-haul testing, with cutting-edge dynamic ranges of up to 45 dB and event dead zones as low as 0.8 m.
Its major working features include a four-second power-up time, sunlight-readable touchscreen, and shortkeys for efficient task accomplishment. The FTB-150 increases field efficiency with auto-acquisition modes such as Auto Mode for easy parameter selection and Fault Finder Mode for quick fault location. It provides bidirectional testing, linear trace displays for easy analysis, and has optional additions such as a visual fault locator (VFL), fiber inspection probe (200x/400x magnification), and a seven-wavelength calibrated internal optical power meter (850–1650 nm).
The instrument is ruggedized with a water-resistant enclosure, GR-196-CORE compliance, and prolonged battery life in excess of eight hours. It is compatible with Bluetooth, RJ-45, USB, and Compact Flash for remote control and data transfer. Post-analysis is simple with FastReporter software with batch analysis, bidirectional trace analysis, and flexible reporting in PDF and Excel formats.
With pulse widths from 5 ns to 20,000 ns and a minimum sampling resolution of 0.04 m, the FTB-150 provides accurate detection of events, i.e., splices, breaks, and macrobends. The device supports various fiber types and has a physically small size that makes it a portable and user friendly device. Capable of accurate loss measurements and reflectance analysis, this device is perfect for field technicians who require quick and reliable testing that conforms to industry standards for construction, maintenance, or certification procedures.
