The Fluke 1623 can measure earth ground loop resistances utilizing only clamps. For this test method, two clamps are set around the earth ground rod and each are connected to the tester. No earth ground stakes are utilized. A known, altered voltage may be induced by one clamp and the current will be measured utilizing the second clamp. Then, the tester automatically determines the resistance of the earth ground rod. This test technique just meets expectations if a bonded earth ground framework exists to the building or structure under test, but most are. In case there is only one way to ground, like at many residential applications, the stakeless system will not give acceptable an acceptable value and the fall of potential test method must be utilized. With stakeless testing, the earth ground rod does not need to be disconnected, which leaves the bonded earth ground framework intact throughout the test.
