Agilent 86142B Optical Spectrum Analyzer
The Agilent 86142B is a high-performance optical spectrum analyzer (OSA) designed to analyze optical signals in a wavelength range from 600 nm to 1700 nm. The device is highly utilized in telecommunications, fibre optics, and photonic research for characterizing optical devices, optical networks, as well as optical systems. The 86142B is a high-accuracy device with a typical repeatability of ±0.002 nm as well as a ±0.5 nm absolute precision on calibration at the manufacturing level. The device is supported by a range of wavelength bands from 0.06 nm to 10 nm that enable in-depth spectrum investigation in DWDM (dense wavelength division multiplexing) optical networks as well as in additional optical signals.
The analyzer is also competent in a dynamic range as high as 70 dB in a 0.1 nm range in resolution bandwidth, which is suitable for detecting weak signals in close proximity with a high signal. The analyzer also does high-end sweeps with a 40 nm rate in 56.3 ms as the highest rate as well as a cycle time of less than 180 ms in a 50 nm range. The 86142B is compatible with multiple interfaces, which are LAN, GPIB, and a parallel port. The analyzer is also compatible with web-based operation and multiple software platforms, which are LabVIEW and Visual Basic.
The 86142B is also furnished with a range of embedded DWDM sources, amplifiers, passive components, and spectrum analysis functions. A multimode fibre interface, source, and wavelength calibrator are included as accessory functions. The wavelength calibrator, which is a device that is absorption-cell based on acetylene gas, supports on-board reference wavelength accuracy over ±10 pm. The analyzer is also very sensitive between -60 dBm and -90 dBm wavelength dependent in detecting weak signals. With its high-quality construction, 86142B operates smoothly in 95% humidity between 0°C and 55°C.
