Keysight/Agilent M8030A Multi-Channel BERT
The Keysight/Agilent M8030A Multi-Channel BERT is a large-scale (high-density) Bit Error Ratio Tester (BERT), which has been developed specifically for use in industrial automation environments that require the concurrent measurement of multiple high-speed digital interfaces. The device can support up to ten pattern generator channels and up to ten analyzer channels within one single 14-slot AXIe chassis, allowing for the simultaneous measurement of devices supporting data rates at speeds of 8.5 Gb/s and/or 16 Gb/s. As the M8030A is fully compatible with all of the current J-BERT M8020A Series Modules, such as the M8041A and M8051A, engineers will be able to take advantage of their previous investment(s) in addition to increasing the capacity of their tests. The integrated and calibrated jitter injection capabilities built into the M8030A allow users to generate various types of jitter, such as random jitter, periodic jitter, sinusoidal jitter, bounded uncorrelated jitter, spread spectrum clocking, and sinusoidal level interference in both common mode and differential mode configurations.
Industrial Automation Engineers generally utilize the M8030A to verify receiver compliance and physically characterize chips, boards, and systems with many I/O interfaces. Examples of applications include verifying multi-lane receiver compliance with PCI Express specifications, evaluating burst mode performance of Passive Optical Network (PON) components, and validating 40GBASE or 100GBASE interface ports utilizing four 10Gbps lanes. Each of the eight tap de-emphasis tap patterns provided by each of the independent pattern generator channels can also have adjustable ISI and fine-grained delay control. In addition to these features, the M8030A includes built-in clock recovery and equalization, as well as an interactive link trainer for PCI Express, which can help reduce test time. Because each pattern generator channel can apply unique jitter frequencies and amplitudes, it simulates real-world crosstalk conditions where adjacent interfaces act as aggressors upon a victim interface.
For industrial automation engineers, the M8030A increases test productivity by removing sequential single-lane tests and by limiting reflections produced when a high-speed switcher is turned off in the setup. Like other Keysight products, all options and modules are field-upgradeable and will adapt to changing test needs. Also like other Keysight products, all of the same software will be accessible to users on both the M8030A and J-BERT M8020A platforms through a single software platform called the M8070B. This eliminates the need to learn new software tools, which will increase productivity.
