Keysight/Agilent N4963A Clock Synthesizer
The Keysight N4963A Clock Synthesizer is a high-speed digital test and RF test tool made to create differential clock signals over a large range of frequencies (500 MHz - 13.5 GHz). Originally found under the manufacturer Agilent, this test tool has been developed specifically for engineers who need reliable timing sources, controlled jitter conditions, and consistent signal patterns while verifying serial data links, high-speed devices, and other electronic communications equipment. With six pairs of differential square wave outputs, this tool may be connected via the front panel or rear panel of a test system, so it is easy to use on a workbench, integrate into a larger test system, or add multiple channels to your test setup.
The N4963A allows you to programmatically control the DC offset, phase offset, output amplitude, and trigger behavior of each pair of outputs via GPIB. Therefore, users are able to adjust their signal environment without having to make physical changes to their hardware. Also, since there are two ways to generate the clock (an internal 10 MHZ reference or an external 10 MHZ reference), this test tool will produce a synthesized clock with extremely low intrinsic jitter for producing clean timing. Additionally, if the N4963A-101 jitter injection option is ordered with the Keysight N4963A, then additional stress patterns at frequencies ranging from a very low value of 0 Hz to 100 MHZ may be added to the test signal. These additional stress patterns would be useful when determining margin, timing tolerance, and eye integrity for highly demanding digital designs.
As a result, this Keysight/Agilent Clock Synthesizer tool is valuable to engineers within industrial automation applications such as laboratory characterization and production testing. Engineers using this tool most often perform multi-lane PRBS eye mask testing, stressed eye BER testing, crosstalk analysis and general-purpose timing stimulus testing in data comm and high-speed interface verification. Furthermore, this tool supports a programmable low-rate trigger output. As a result, engineers can utilize this tool to support synchronized test flows that have specific timing relationships. In conclusion, for engineers developing complex digital systems, the N4963A is a versatile timing generator for creating repeatable signal conditioning and timing verifications.
