Keysight/Agilent N5252A E-Band Network Analyzer System
Keysight's N5252A is a PXI-based millimeter-wave vector network analyzer engineered for characterization of S-parameters with precision across the entire E-band spectrum (60 GHz to 90 GHz). Originally under the manufacturer name Agilent, this system combines Keysight's M9374A PXIe vector network analyzers with VDI frequency extenders in an M9005A chassis, providing a compact and cost-effective alternative to full-sized benchtop analyzers. It will be used by engineers designing military communication systems, radar components for automotive applications, next generation wireless communication systems that require accurate device verification without the expense of using full-sized PNA-based setups.
A complete N5252A solution consists of the PXIe VNA modules, the chassis with an integrated system module, dedicated WR12 waveguide frequency extenders, a power sensor for port power calibration, waveguide calibration kit, and measurement software required to perform tests. Both two-port and four-port configurations are available, which allows for flexible analysis of components such as antennas, filters, amplifiers and transceivers operating at E-band. The system provides a minimum 100 dB dynamic range at a 10 Hz bandwidth, usually between 105 dB and 110 dB, and has a typical output level of +13 dBm from each test port. Direct adjustment of the power level at the extender output eliminates the need for external attenuators; additionally, the use of a standard power meter or sensor for calibration enhances the accuracy of measurement.
Industrial control engineers can also use the N5252A for production line testing of millimeter wave modules used in 5g backhaul equipment, automobile radar sensors and point-to-point radio links. The pxi form factor of the analyzer makes it possible to seamlessly incorporate into an automated test system reducing footprint while enhancing throughput. The analyzer supports standard VNA functions in addition to millimeter wave extensions, so one setup can handle low-frequency characterization and E-band characterization. By providing stable magnitude and phase measurements with typical instability of ±0.15 db and ±2 degrees respectively, the system helps validate performance margins in high-volume manufacturing process without sacrificing data integrity. The combination of coverage, dynamic range, and system-level integration makes the N5252A a practical tool for advancing millimeter wave technology from design verification to final production test.
