Datum bc635VME Time and Frequency Processor
The Datum bc635VME module provides time-on-demand and event logging by synchronizing with GPIS, IRIG time codes, or real-time clocks. This processor may be associated with a variety of manufacturers, depending on the age of the specific model. The original manufacturer, Bancomm, became a part of Datum Inc before it was acquired by the manufacturer Symmetricom. Symmetricom was later acquired by Microsemi, which most recently has become part of Microchip Technology.
The module provides time on demand and event logging from days down to 0.1 microseconds with zero latency. Event time is captured upon a positive or negative input edge. Time of day, measured in hours, minutes, and seconds, is displayed on the front panel. The board reset function allows users to reset the device if necessary.
The module has 6 operational modes. It can synchronize to timecode (IRIG-A, IRIG-B, XR3, 2137, or NASA 36), free running (using an onboard VCXO), external 1 PPS, an onboard battery-backed Real Time Clock (RTC), or optional GPS configurations. If the primary synchronization fails, the bc635VME will continue to operate at the last functioning reference rate. Time Sync Mode allows users to select the device’s time source mode. Available modes are time code decoding, free running, external 1PPS, RTC, and optionally GPS.
It generates synchronized IRIG B timecode (both amplitude-modulated and DC level shift formats simultaneously) and IRIG H DC level shift signals. The Datum bc635VME offers a programmable output frequency of 10,000,000 / (n1 * n2) and a time coincidence strobe output that is programmable from hours down to milliseconds. The module supports five interrupt sources: external event input, periodic output, time coincidence strobe, one-second epoch (1PPS), and output data packet availability. IRQ levels 1 through 7 are programmable. The Frequency Output function allows users to control the frequency signal output. Available frequencies are 1, 5, and 10 MHz.
The power requirements for the Datum bc635VME are +5V @ 1.5 amps, +12V @ 50 milliamps, and -12V @ 30 milliamps. Its operating temperature range is 0 to 70°C, and its non-operating temperature range is -30 to +85°C.
