Agilent 53132A Universal Frequency Counter
The 53132A universal frequency counter by Agilent is a high performance time measurement instrument. It delivers precise measurements across laboratory and production environments. The unit supports a standard bandwidth of 225 MHz and optional frequency extensions expand capability to 1.5 GHz, 3 GHz, 5 GHz or 12.4 GHz. The unit has a maximum frequency and period resolution of 12 digits per second. It has a resolution of 150 ps time intervals to get precise timing analysis. Complex modes of arming increase accuracy in the readings of time intervals and enhance a better control of triggering of the signal at different signal conditions.
The 53132A has a standard GPIB interface to allow system integration. The IntuiLink connectivity software permits a direct data transfer to different computing platforms. The counter has an ability of transferring data with a rate of 200 fully formatted measurements per second. It provides an option of input impedance of either 1 M-Ohms or 50 Ohms. The input of 1 mega-Ohms offers 30 pF capacitance to the input as a minimum signal loading. AC or DC coupling is selectable to suit the needs of various signal types. The filter delivers -20 dB attenuation at frequencies above 1 MHz. The 53132A universal counter features selectable sensitivity levels for optimized signal detection. Users can select Low Medium or High sensitivity based on signal amplitude. Low sensitivity is approximately twice the threshold of High sensitivity mode to ensure reliable generating through diverse signal conditions.
The 53132A maintains FM tolerance up to 25% for stable measurements. Its built in statistics functions are capable of calculating average, minimum, maximum and standard deviation values. These calculations occur simultaneously without external processing. The automated limit testing enables configuration of upper and lower thresholds for any measurement. The frequency counter continuously compares measured values against programmed limits. An output signal can be generated to trigger external devices when limits are exceeded. The 53132A uses an analog display mode that provides immediate visual confirmation of pass or fail status. This mode simplifies interpretation during repetitive production testing procedures. The front panel allows storage of up to 20 different measurement configurations. A single keystroke recalls stored setups for quick transition between test scenarios.
