Keithley 2410 SourceMeter
A Keithley 2410 is a high-voltage SMU (source measurement unit), which in itself is an instrument that combines a highly accurate source of DC power and a high-performance digital multimeter into one small frame. The Keithley 2410 can function as a single source of a voltage source, a current source, a voltmeter, an ammeter, and an ohmmeter. Because it has all of these functions built-in, and they operate so closely together in terms of timing, the Keithley 2410 is designed to perform very well with DC parametric test equipment, where timing and coordinating the output of the test signal and the response from the device under test are important to both speed and accuracy.
As a high-voltage SourceMeter, it has the capability to provide a maximum of 1100V DC or 1A, with a total power output of 20W. Due to its operation as a four-quadrant source, it is able to function as both a source and a sink, allowing users to test items such as battery packs, solar panels, and other products that have the potential to produce their own electrical energy. Its measurement accuracy is 0.012%, and it is capable of producing 6½ 6½-digit-resolution measurements. In addition, it comes equipped with a number of interfaces, including GPIB, RS-232 and a digital I/O port for use with handler control, as well as a special “Trigger Link” interface to allow for synchronization of high-speed tests with other instruments, such as those used in switching systems. A "contact check" feature is available on the -C version of the device and allows users to quickly verify whether or not their test fixtures are in working order prior to beginning automated sequences, eliminating the risk of a false failure.
The Keithley 2410 SMU is utilized in both industrial and research settings for the characterization and production testing of a variety of electronic components. Some common examples of high-voltage semiconductor applications for the Keithley 2410 include the testing of laser diodes, LEDs, Zener diodes, varistors and other types of protective circuit elements. These applications often require precise I-V curve tracing, leakage current, breakdown voltage, and resistance measurements. The SourceMeter provides these measurement capabilities and also reduces the amount of time required to develop test systems as well as simplifies the connection process; therefore, it is a very useful tool for quality assurance and R&D engineers in industries that include aerospace, automotive, medical devices, telecommunications, etc.
