Keithley 2450 Source Measure Unit
The Keithley 2450 Source Measure Unit (SMU) Instrument is a highly accurate current, voltage, and resistance test instrument. It combines the capabilities of analyzers, curve tracers, and I-V systems, and therefore is versatile in use. With a five-inch capacitive touchscreen of high resolution, it has a very user-friendly interface that allows its operation and setup to be rapid.
With its four-quadrant source and measure capability, the Keithley 2450 can function as a voltage or current source, electronic load, and precision measurement instrument. It has a basic measurement accuracy of 0.012% and a resolution of 6.5 digits. It provides enhanced sensitivity with new 20mV and 10nA source and measure ranges, which is suitable for nano-scale device testing, semiconductor, and low-power material tests.
The 2450 has several programming modes, such as SCPI and Keithley's TSP® scripting, making it easy to integrate into automated test systems. It also features some quickset modes, which offer quick setup options for a variety of typical testing conditions. The TriggerFlow® system allows users to define complex triggering sequences, while connectivity to GPIB, USB, Ethernet, and TSP-Link® makes it easy to integrate with test systems with many instruments.
Ease of use was a top consideration for the design of the Keithley 2450, and it is equipped with banana jacks on the front panel and triaxal inputs on the rear panel. A front-panel USB port is provided for storing data, loading scripts, and setting up the instrument. The integral graphical plotting capability provides real-time graphical representation of measurement data, without requiring an external program for immediate analysis.
Some of the typical applications are nanomaterials characterization like graphene and carbon nanotubes, wafer and thin film semiconductor analysis, and organic electronics characterization like printable circuits. It is also being used extensively in energy efficiency studies, LED, solar cell, and battery testing. The 2450's versatility even reaches into electrochemistry applications like cyclic voltammetry and battery cycling.
