HP / Agilent 8153A Lightwave Multimeter Mainframe
Featuring a dual-channel display, the HP 8153A Lightwave Multimeter Mainframe is designed to accommodate a wide range of plug-in modules and interfaces in an optical measurement system. Originally manufactured by Hewlett Packard (HP), this device can also be found under the manufacturer Agilent. The 6-digit primary display is supported by an 8-character auxiliary display in order to clearly present relevant data. Any single-phase AC power supply that provides between 100 V - 240 V with a frequency between 40 and 60Hz can power the device. When all options are installed, the maximum power usage is 55 VA. The modular design of this Lightwave Multimeter offers users the ability to use either a double width module or two single width modules.
The default operational mode of the device is Measure Mode, which allows the user to both set up and take basic measurements. In this mode, the black writing on the keys of the keyboard describe their function. The other possible operational mode of the 8153A Lightwave Multimeter is Menu Mode, which features pre-programmed procedures that carry out common (but more complex) measurements. In menu mode, the functions of the keys on the keyboard are displayed by the blue text above them.
The display for the power of the HP 8153A ranges from -30 to -110dBm or (1000.00mW to 0.01 pW). The measurement time takes anywhere from 20 minutes to 1 hour. The data memory capabilities of this multimeter mainframe can store up to 500 measurement results per channel, with a data acquisition time that is greater than or equal to 20ms per measurement result.
Physically, the Lightwave Multimeter measures dimensions of 8.9 mm x 212.3 mm x 355 mm (3.5 in. x 8.36 in. x 14.0 in.) and it weighs in at a net weight of 2.5 kg (5.5 lbs.). While operational, the device should be kept within an environmental temperature range of 0°C to 55°C. When not in use, the HP 8153A should be stored within an environmental temperature range of -40°C to 75°C. The relative humidity of the environment should be less than 95% within a range of 0°C to 40°C.
The 8153A is now regarded as Obsolete by the manufacturer, but the Lightwave Multimeter will remain available in perpetuity with Apex Waves!
