Keysight E4980A Precision LCR Meter
The Keysight E4980A Precision LCR Meter is a precision equipment for high-accuracy impedance measurements from 20 Hz up to 2 MHz. The device is a widely used piece of equipment for the analysis of passive components such as capacitors, inductors, resistors, and semiconducting materials for R&D and manufacturing. The device offers high-speed measurements with precision, with a minimum impedance precision of 0.05% and with the ability for the application of sophisticated correction methods such as Open/Short/Load compensation for the elimination of the effect of measurements.
Equipped with a 7-digit high-resolution LCD, the E4980A offers six display formats for accommodating a wide range of measurements, such as data overview, statistical calculation, and high-speed operation. Its flexible test signals, from 100 µV up to 20 Vrms with the E4980A-001 option, make AC voltage dependency testing possible with no external amplifiers. A built-in DC biasing up to ±40 V and a low-noise DC source port (±10 V) are also integrated into the device, enabling device characterization such as capacitors and wafers based on dependency from bias.
The E4980A is excellent for speed-critical measurements with a minimum of 5.6 ms per point of measurement for the SHORT mode at 1 MHz. Programmable list sweeps with up to 201 points for multidimension testing and DC resistance measurement for simultaneous testing of DC resistance and inductance testing capabilities exist. Support for more than twenty test fixtures exists for compatibility with a variety of component shapes, such as surface-mount devices. Standard USB, USB, and GPIB interfaces facilitate easy incorporation into automated test systems, and optional handler and scanner interfaces (E4980A-201 and E4980A-301) make it even more useful for high-throughput applications. The meter is compact (370 x 105 x 390 mm, 5.3 kg) and light, making it easily portable for the production floor and lab. Multi-channel compensation, variable test signals, and auto-level control are some of the high-end features that further allow the meter to operate stably even in low-impedance (for example, ESR measurements) and high-impedance (for example, femto-farad capacitors) measurements.
Backward compatibility with earlier models such as the 4284A and 4279A makes migration easier, and upgrade paths for increased DC bias, power handling, and system interface ability achieve ultimate long-term value. The E4980A is the ideal solution for accurate impedance measurements, material characterization, and electronics manufacturing and advanced component development quality assurance.
