Agilent 33220A Function/Arbitrary Waveform Generator
The Agilent 33220A is a multifunction synthesized function generator with a frequency of 20 MHz, used for precise waveform generation in a range of benchtop and system applications. The device combines advanced waveform synthesis with built-in arbitrary waveform and pulse capabilities, thus supporting a wide range of testing and developmental functions. It supports ten standard waveforms that include sine, square, ramp, triangle, pulse, noise, and DC, together with five arbitrary predefined waveforms such as exponential rise, exponential fall, and cardiac patterns.
The 33220A is provided with a high-resolution arbitrary waveform generation feature of 14 bits that provides a sampling rate of 50 MSa/s, thus making it possible to create sophisticated custom waveforms. Its pulse waveform generation with varying edge times up to 13 ns is well suited for testing communication and digital system devices. The frequency of a standard generator waveform varies between 1 µHz and 20 MHz and up to 6 MHz for arbitrary waveforms. It has very good flatness of amplitude and reduced harmonic distortion.
For system integration, the 33220A offers GPIB (IEEE-488), USB, and LAN interfaces as standard, for simple remote control and automation compatibility. It is SCPI (Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments) compatible for reliable programming in test systems. The front panel features a clear LCD display with numeric and graphical readouts, a easy-to-use knob, and a numeric keypad for quick setup. The instrument offers sophisticated modulation schemes such as AM, FM, PM, FSK, and PWM with internal or external modulation sources. Sweep and burst modes are also offered with linear or logarithmic frequency sweeps and burst counts of up to 50,000 cycles. Output flexibility is offered with programmable amplitude (10 mVpp to 10 Vpp into 50 Ω), DC offset (±5 V), and selectable termination settings.
Built for enduring performance, the 33220A operates between 0°C and 55°C and features non-volatile memory to store instrument states. With its small size and ruggedized case, the 33220A is equally comfortable on the factory floor as on the benchtop. Whether in signal simulation, component testing, or in the classroom, it delivers the accuracy and reliability needed for demanding waveform generation applications.
