Keysight E4980AL Precision LCR Meter
Keysight E4980AL Precision LCR Meter is a high-precision impedance measuring and analyzing instrument for electronic components such as capacitors, inductors, and resistors. Operating at frequency ranges of 20 Hz to 300 kHz, 500 kHz, or 1 MHz (depending on the model), it has a 4-digit resolution with a low 0.05% basic accuracy, offering steady operation over low and high impedance ranges. The meter accepts variable test signal levels of 100 µV to 2 Vrms and 1 µA to 20 mA with auto-level control for stable signal integrity. Included DC bias capabilities (1.5 V or 2 V) enable testing of components under real operating conditions, and DC resistance measurements provide further flexibility for complete characterization.
With its four-terminal pair measurement terminal, the E4980AL minimizes lead resistance and noise in measurement with accuracy. It accepts test cables with a maximum length of 4 meters and offers compensation operations (OPEN, SHORT, LOAD) to correct fixture error in measurements. The measurement items are capacitance (Cp, Cs), inductance (Lp, Ls), dissipation factor (D), quality factor (Q), and impedance (Z) with respect to either a parallel or a series equivalent circuit model. The 201-point list sweep function offers auto multi-condition measurement to enhance productivity when used in production and research and development situations.
The instrument offers three measurement times (SHORT, MED, and LONG) to balance between speed and accuracy, with measurement times of as low as 5.6 ms with 2-MHz operation. LAN, USB, and GPIB interface connectivity also allow simple integration into test automation systems. LXI Class C compliance offers compatibility when incorporated in a networked application. Frequency upgradeability allows forward compatibility, enabling the extension of capability whenever needed by customers.
Ideal for material testing and component qualification, the E4980AL is supported by the N1500A-005/006 materials measurement software suite for easy fixture setup and data reporting. The uses are diverse and span all the way from passive component testing, to filter design, to material property measurement, specifically those requiring high accuracy. With environmental resistance ruggedized (0–55°C) and high packing density, the E4980AL introduces laboratory-grade accuracy to factory floor reliability, and it's an excellent choice where difficult impedance measurement applications are needed.
