Keysight U1733C Handheld LCR Meter
The Keysight U1733C Handheld LCR Meter is an instrument designed specifically to provide accurate measurement of inductance (L), capacitance (C), as well as resistance (R) in various situations, including industrial situations, environment testing, and laboratory testing. It measures frequencies as high as 100 kHz, shared with benchtop instruments, to accurately analyze components such as resistors, inductors, and aluminum electrolytic capacitors in high frequency circuits or switching supplies with precision. The meter has a single-touch auto ID function to identify component type (L/C/R) as well as provide secondary measurements such as impedance (Z), equivalent series resistance (ESR), DC resistance (DCR), dissipation factor (D), quality factor (Q), and phase angle (θ).
The U1733C comes with a 20,000-count resolution and has an inherent accuracy of 0.2% to allow reliable measurements over wide ranges. It also has five selectable test frequencies of 100 Hz, 120 Hz, 1 kHz, 10 kHz, and 100 kHz to accommodate different component characteristics. A DCR function built into the meter obviates multiple multimeter usage by delivering straightforward DC resistance measurements. A Null function provides compensation for stray capacitance and test lead resistance to yield higher measurement accuracy of low resistance (2 Ω–200 Ω) and low capacitance (20 pF–2000 pF).
The U1733C LCR meter has IR-to-USB connectivity with PCs for logging data, a backlit LCD with low-light visibility, and rugged 9 V battery operation with a maximum usage of 16 hours. It also features auto-range and manual-range modes, tolerance testing (1%–20%), and overcurrent protection. The U1733C has compliance with safety standard EN61010-1 and works between -10°C and 55°C and thus competes well in rugged applications.
Applications are varied, ranging from component testing, quality investigation, and fault tracking in telecomm, automobile, and renewable energy power supplies to in-circuit testing of components such as ESR in capacitors or inductance in transformers. It includes alligator clip cables, a 9 V battery, and a calibration certificate to allow immediate deployment. The U1733C offers benchtop performance coupled with ease of a portable device, placing component analysis in the reach of engineers and technicians who require accuracy in dynamic industrial control tasks.
