Aerotech DR500 Drive Chassis
Aerotech's DR500 is a universal, versatile drive chassis that functions as a main element of Aerotech's UNIDEX 500 and UNIDEX 600 motion control systems. The DR500 acts as a central hub for the management of an entire multi-axis motion system, providing the high-voltage power required by the amplifiers for each motor, while also serving as the common point for all of the necessary control, feedback and I/O inputs/outputs. With this capability, the DR500 has greatly simplified the process of integrating a range of motion systems, improving their reliability for demanding applications.
The DR500's capacity to adapt to almost any particular application's requirements is one of its biggest advantages. The DR500 can provide anywhere from one to four amplifier axes depending on the application requirements. Additionally, it can include additional options (such as shunt regulators) in order to manage regenerative energy generated by high inertia type loads and fail-safe brake control logic to maintain the vertical axis position when the power is lost. The Drive Chassis is available in either a 19-inch rack mount version or a desktop version, so it can easily fit into a wide range of system configurations. Finally, the DR500 was designed to allow for easy integration with other peripherals, including joysticks, electronic handwheels and additional I/O boards, to expand the control capabilities of the system.
The DR500 has a wide array of uses in both industrial and precision automation applications. It is commonly used in systems that require coordinated motion among multiple axes (for example, in precision manufacturing, automated test and inspection stations and complex material handling applications). By providing a reliable and consistent power source and a secure interface between the controllers and the motors, the DR500 provides a solid base for developing high-performance motion control systems. Its ability to provide both "depth" of functionality and "breadth" of integration makes the DR500 a fundamental building block in designing sophisticated and reliable automation systems.
