Aerotech DR500R-A-160-160 Servo System
The Aerotech DR500R-A-160-160 drive chassis has been designed to enhance motion control systems. Up to 4 distinct amplifiers can be housed in this 19-inch rack mount chassis. These amplifiers are mounted in the front panel and can be AC brushless, DC servo, or microstepping. In addition to providing bus power for these amplifier modules, the chassis readily matches with Aerotech's standard motor and feedback connections, serving as a breakout for all control and input/output signals. The DR500R-A-160-160, which is offered in desktop and rack mount packaging, guarantees versatility and adaptability for a range of industrial applications.
In addition to providing high-power bus voltages at 40, 60, 80, or 160 VDC levels and powering incremental encoder feedback transducers, the DR500R-A-160-160 also conditions and modifies bus voltage levels. For the amplifiers, it performs each of these tasks. Apart from efficiently distributing all motion-related signals to and from the U500 or U600 controllers and overseeing all motor power connections for Aerotech motor cables, it also guarantees a fail-safe connection to it.
It is possible to configure the DR500R-A-160-160 to meet a variety of customer needs. It can accommodate up to two transformers, one to four amplifier modules, and up to four DC servo, AC brushless, or microstepping amplifiers. Complete motor power connections to the amplifier modules are provided, together with options for passive regeneration dissipation, brake power, and alternative brake control logic. The chassis can power motors in up to four axes and connect to an electronic joystick or handwheel.
Several options improve the DR500R-A-160-160's default functionality. For motors running from a 160 VDC bus with substantial inertial loads, the SHUNT500 regulator board is necessary because it dissipates surplus energy into a resistive load that consumes 95 watts, so preventing damage. Applications utilizing brushless motors with Hall effect sensors, linking the U600/U500 and the DR500, and providing extra inputs/outputs via other interface boards all depend on the DRC I/O wire.
The DR500R-A-160-160 brake option uses a normally-on electromagnetic brake attached to the load to provide a fail-safe mechanism to retain position on a vertical axis when power is removed. This option necessitates installing brake components on the Drive Interface Board and the Rear Panel Interface Board in addition to additional wiring.
