Keysight/Agilent M9703B AXIe Digitizer/Wideband Digital Receiver
The Keysight/Agilent M9703B is a DC-coupled, 12-bit wideband digital receiver/digitizer using the AXIe modular standard. It can be placed in one slot of an AXIe chassis. There are eight independent acquisition channels available on this board, but the user has the ability to pair these into groups of two, creating four pairs of phase-coherent acquisition channels operating at 3.2 GS/s. All eight acquisition channels operate at a maximum rate of 1.6 GS/s when paired with the -SR2 option. An additional option called the -F10 allows for DC to 2 GHz, directly capturing analog signals without needing an external RF amplifier. Onboard, there are four Xilinx Virtex-6 FPGA devices that use up to 16 GB of DDR3 acquisition memory. The use of DDC (digital down conversion) is optional; it will improve the dynamic range, lower the noise floor, and increase the length of time the instrument captures data by allowing users to isolate only those frequency bands where useful information exists.
The M9703B has many applications in areas requiring high performance and multi-channel capabilities. These include plasma fusion research, hydrodynamic experiments, radar array calibration, passive radar receivers, multi-band SatCom monitoring, and development of 5G massive MIMO systems. Due to its phase-coherent design, it provides extremely low channel-to-channel skew stability (±200 fs), thereby allowing for precise timing alignment of all input signals. Through utilization of the PCIe x4 backplane interface, this product can sustainably deliver data transfer rates of up to 1.4 GB/sec. Two options (-CB1 & -CB2) are available to add I/Q streaming and recording capability to the product, each providing up to 320 MHz of alias-protected instantaneous bandwidth.
Through its implementation of an embedded Linux controller (as part of the M9506A chassis), engineers who choose to utilize the M9703B will have access to a safe and easy way to control their instruments remotely via SCPI over LAN. Additionally, the M9703B offers engineers flexible input conditioning options by allowing them to choose between 1V and 2V full-scale ranges and/or a ±2x FSR offset range. With the -SR2 option, the trigger time interpolator offers 15 ps RMS precision. Engineers are able to precisely record events in their testing with this degree of accuracy. Whether utilized for wideband signal analysis with Keysight PathWave VSA software or for high throughput multichannel baseband IQ recording, the M9703B will significantly decrease engineer test time by enabling real-time tuning and zooming on signals of interest.
