Keysight/Agilent M9045B PCIe ExpressCard Adapter
The Keysight M9045B, originally found under the manufacturer Agilent, is a PCIe ExpressCard Adapter that acts as a bridge that allows a laptop’s ExpressCard 34 slot to connect to a modular test chassis via a standard PCI Express cable. With the addition of this adapter to a suitable notebook computer, users receive a direct Gen 1 x1 PCIe link to an AXIe or PXIe mainframe. Thus, the user is able to convert their laptop to be a fully functional host controller for use with automated measurement systems. As a result, the need for a desktop pc or embedded controller is eliminated, providing users with truly portable configurations of field service, on-site calibration, and industrial automation diagnostic setups.
The M9045B adapter includes a low-power ExpressCard 34 circuit board with an integrated x1 Molex connector (that meets the PCIe over cable specification). The adapter can provide up to 250 MB/s max throughput and support passive copper cables up to 7 meters in length (such as Keysight's Y1200B x1-to-x8 cable) because the interface is electrically transparent; therefore, there will be no need for special device drivers or software layers. The operating system will detect the connected chassis and instruments as native PCIe devices and allow existing test applications written with Keysight VEE, National Instruments LabVIEW, MATLAB or Python to operate unchanged. Due to the very small amount of current drawn by the card, it will preserve laptop battery life during long-term field deployments.
This adapter would normally be used alongside one of Keysight’s AXIe chassis (the M9502A or M9505A), or one of Keysight’s PXIe chassis (M9018A) that has been fitted with the M9021A cable interface. Upon being connected, all of the collection of modular digitizers, arbitrary waveform generators, RF analyzers, and switching matrixes become available via a single ExpressCard slot. Engineers using industrial automation will have greatly reduced equipment footprints and quickly reconfigure their test systems for use with in-line monitoring of production lines, vibration analysis, or in-vehicle networks. The Keysight/Agilent M9045B provides simple, driverless connections and high-quality signal integrity over the length of the specified cable lengths making it an ideal way to deploy mobile test architectures while still maintaining measurement capabilities.
