Keysight/Agilent E2910A PCI Bus Exerciser
The Keysight E2910A PCI Bus Exerciser provides a dedicated hardware environment for developing and validating (hardware) devices and systems utilizing the PCI bus architecture. The E2910A is a programmable, independent agent operating upon the PCI bus, providing users the ability to simulate missing system components, create "corner case" protocol usage scenarios, and/or analyze real-world traffic as it traverses the bus. For many industrial automation systems, this type of functionality is vital because of the reliance upon the bus-level integrity provided by these systems' PCI bus-based controllers/data acquisition cards/embedded computing platforms. The E2910A can operate at speeds up to 33 MHz and exercise devices at their maximum possible bandwidths.
Additionally, the E2910A will master and target all forms of PCI transaction types (reserved commands included). Engineers have total control over all aspects of the bus, including wait state(s), burst length, abortion/retry behavior, parity generation, and/or error injection. All PCI bus operations are monitored in real time for protocol errors/abnormalities, which alert the engineer to specific protocol violations occurring during test sequences. Additionally, the E2910A includes a test sequencer capable of recognizing patterns within user-defined sequences, allowing for dynamic branching/triggers based upon observed bus conditions.
Besides generating traffic, checking protocols, analyzing traffic, etc., the E2910A also comes equipped with companion software capable of linking the E2910A with a logic analyzer for displaying/hierarchically disassembling captured detailed bus traffic. Therefore, users are able to view "raw" hexadecimal data as high-level transaction views, which greatly simplifies the process of debugging. Users may also record live PCI transactions, modify them offline, and then replay those modified sequences back onto the system under test in order to reproduce difficult faults or verify repair solutions. Fixturing capabilities allow for in-system testing of motherboard boards using either 32-bit or 64-bit PCI slot formats, thereby supporting testing of both in-system-tested motherboard boards and direct testing of add-in card designs.
Ultimately, by providing traffic generation, protocol checking, and analysis in one unit/platform, the Keysight E2910A allows engineering teams to rapidly identify the root cause of any integration issue they may be experiencing and thoroughly verify their products prior to deploying them in an industrial environment.
