Keysight/Agilent E2922B PCI-X Master Target Test Card
The Keysight E2922B, also found under the manufacturer Agilent, is used as an independent test tool for validating 133-MHz PCI-X bus technology by semiconductor designers who are testing their new silicon that includes core logic chipsets. The test card is capable of testing every device or sub-system of the PCI-X bus in depth by performing the role of either master or target on every slot of the PCI-X bus. The E2922B was designed for in-circuit programmability and can be integrated directly into existing test systems using its C-API (C Application Interface) and PCI-X interface, eliminating the need for additional hardware to implement scripting.
For generating traffic patterns and analyzing protocols, the E2922B provides a feature-rich exerciser combined with a multi-rule protocol analyzer. The exerciser offers features including split transactions, a 1-Mbyte data memory buffer, and a real-time data generator to simulate complex, one-way data path verification on the bus. In addition, the protocol analyzer continuously checks against 53 unique PCI-X protocol rules and will indicate immediately if any rule has been violated. Libraries for creating permutations and randomized traffic patterns based upon predefined scripts are included within the E2922B's PPR-C (Programming Rules - Compiler) programming environment, in addition to a design verification test library containing pre-written test cases for compliance screening.
Designed to operate from DC to 133.4 MHz (clock speed) with a 64-bit address space and data paths, the E2922B is specifically designed for the needs of computer core logic validation, specifically when fully populating all PCI-X slots is required. Designers utilize the target test card to detect timing marginalities, protocol errors, and interoperability issues in server chipsets, bridges, and I/O controller designs prior to production ramp-up. Additionally, the device reduces setup complexities typical of PCI-X conformity testing due to its ability to simultaneously generate traffic and check protocols dynamically. As a result, validation teams utilizing the E2922B can "shift-left" and identify design flaws earlier in the product development cycle.
