Keysight/Agilent E2926A PCI Exerciser and Analyzer
The Keysight E2926A is a fully programmable, 33 MHz PCI exerciser/analyzer card that operates as both a controllable master and target and includes full support for 64-bit transactions. The card validates bus operation under realistic operating conditions (e.g., real-world traffic) and extreme conditions (corner-case timing) as well as supports PCI Specification Revision 2.1. Engineers utilize the E2926A to generate specific traffic patterns on the bus while analyzing response patterns. As such, engineers can quickly identify issues within chipset bring-up, arbitration logic, and data integrity.
In addition to its ability to capture 64 K traces of PCI state logic, the E2926A's onboard hardware also features 512 KB of onboard data memory. The E2926A captures all bus signals, decoded protocol states, and/or external trigger input signals in time alignment. The twenty-four pattern terms are used to monitor address ranges, command codes, and handshake signal combinations. These twenty-four pattern terms feed into a sixty-four level trigger sequencer. The onboard real-time protocol checker verifies adherence to fifty-three rules based on PCI Specification Revision 2.1. When an error occurs during the verification process, the E2926A triggers a trace and logs the error. Each rule may be masked so that it does not cause a failure if an error occurs. In addition, each rule may be assigned to one of eight dedicated counters. Each counter measures a different parameter such as retries, idle cycles, or burst length. Additionally, the onboard data compare engine identifies when a comparison between expected and actual data values indicates a difference. The onboard CPU controls autonomous execution of test sequences, allowing engineers to perform standalone stress tests.
Engineers utilize the Keysight E2926A via the C-API, RS-232 interface, or optionally via the Keysight E2925 Fast Host Interface at a speed of up to 4 MB/s. Additionally, the Keysight E2920-Series provides a graphical front end that provides a protocol compliance dashboard, performance profiling, and automated regression suites. Industrial automation test beds and semiconductor characterization laboratories utilize this solution to measure bus arbitration latency, verify interrupt handling, and subject PCI bridges to their maximum possible payload. Combining traffic generation capabilities with trace capture abilities to over 4M samples and detecting protocol violations within a single slot significantly reduces time-to-market for PCI-based products to determine the cause of failure.
