Keysight/Agilent E2929A PCI-X Exerciser and Analyzer
The Keysight E2929A is an integrated verification solution for troubleshooting and verifying the 133 MHz PCI-X I/O bus design. This product has three functions—it can act as both a protocol check and a full function exerciser, as well as a state logic analyzer for testing purposes. The purpose of this product is to provide R&D engineers designing servers, chipsets, RAID controllers, and network interface cards access to all of the tools they need to debug their design. The E2929A checks 53 different protocol rules while generating any type of PCI-X transfer that may be required during the debugging process. As such, it becomes the central reference point for all PCI-X development and compliance testing.
The E2929A hardware includes the primary test card with 64-bit address/data and clock support from DC through 133.4 MHz with automatic frequency detection and fully compliant I/O buffers for 3.3 V signaling. The optional exerciser (#300) allows master/target/master-completer and target requester operations to simulate complete traffic patterns. The optional plug-in state logic analyzer (#100) adds 2 M states of trace memory to allow detailed transaction captures. The Future Plus FS2104 adapter allows connection to Keysight's other logic analyzers.
The control interfaces available on the Keysight E2929A provide flexibility for developers to set up diverse test environments. A fast host interface utilizes a parallel port and Centronics cable to remotely operate a test card within a system under test. An RS-232 port allows firmware updates and serial communication at rates up to 57.6 Kbps. Additionally, the USB port allows connection of up to 256 test cards using a hub to perform simultaneous multi-slot testing without using PCI-X links. Developers may also operate the Keysight E2929A directly through the PCI-X port of their system under test, utilizing no additional cables.
The E2929A's clocking architecture supports the standard PCI clock frequencies and PCI-X clock frequencies at 33 MHz, 66 MHz, 100 MHz, and 133 MHz. Automatic PLL range selection is supported via RST# encoding. Users have the option of setting dip switches to manually select a specific PLL range or completely bypass the PLL when emulating hardware operation down to DC speeds. These options enable users to perform unidirectional data path verification as well as corner case stress testing. This verification platform enables developers to quickly establish a verified design of critical PCI-X components in industrial and enterprise computing applications.
