Keysight/Agilent E2929B PCI-X Protocol Checker
The Keysight/Agilent E2929B PCI-X Protocol Checker is a single platform for validating servers, chipsets, RAID systems, and network interface cards using real-world traffic. Development teams use this tool to verify their hardware designs are compliant with the 133 MHz PCI-X I/O bus. With three integrated tools (the Real-Time Protocol Checker, Programmable Exerciser, and State Logic Analyzer) the E2929B can identify and measure protocol errors, timing violations, and data path bottlenecks.
This product checks bus traffic continuously against 53 protocol rules taken from both the PCI-X and PCI specifications. If there are any violations, they are immediately marked, and when used with the plug-in state analyzer (#100), the violating signal is also timed with the original sample. The on-board exerciser (#300) may operate as a fully programmable requester/completer to generate any valid 32/64-bit PCI-X transaction at speeds of up to 133.4 MHz. The exerciser supports split transactions of up to 4 GB in length and all command types.
To automate testing with the E2929B, a C-API library (#320) is available, which provides a programmatically controlled interface to access the tester via USB, RS-232, or the PCI-X bus from the System Under Test (SUT). Using this API enables developers to write stress and regression suites that will exercise corner cases repeatedly without user interaction. The E2929B exerciser has multiple independent requester queues and a completer allowing users to model complex devices in their development/validation efforts.
Options to extend the functionality of the protocol checker allow developers to transform it into either a performance optimization or a compliance-testing platform. The performance optimizer (#200) uses bus snapshots to provide statistical measurements of throughput and latency. The system validation package (#310) provides pre-built stress and compliance tests for developers to utilize.
The E2929B's short card format fits into a standard PCI-X slot, requires less than 25W power consumption, and complies with all electrical and signal loadings defined within the specification for PCI-X 1.0.
