Keysight/Agilent J2901A Keysight Advisor LAN - Gigabit Ethernet Undercradle
The J2901A from Keysight/Agilent performs as an undercradle that can be used to add additional Gigabit Ethernet testing features to the portable Keysight Advisor network analysis platform. The J2901A provides engineers with the ability to test switched, full-duplex networked systems using the Advisor; this is especially helpful when other monitoring equipment has limited capability for testing these types of networks. In many industrial automation applications, the J2901A is utilized by engineers to verify network performance, diagnose intermittently failing networks, and ensure reliable transmission of data through high-speed Ethernet backbone connections.
This undercradle contains both hardware-based filtering and triggering that will allow engineers to isolate certain communication patterns on their networks. Additionally, the J2901A can generate line rate traffic (a requirement for simulating real-world traffic loads on test networks) and include 16-nanosecond time stamping that allows for accurate measurements of latency and jitter (important characteristics of time-sensitive automation protocols). Statistical information regarding errors, MAC-level errors, and protocol errors is provided to allow engineers to see details about the overall health of each link. Expert analysis software also interprets the behavior of multiple layers of complex networks automatically. Additionally, the J2901A offers seven-layer protocol decoding for most popular networking stack protocols, further reducing troubleshooting times in environments utilizing mixed protocol networks.
In general, the undercradle is used to install, maintain, and troubleshoot Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks. Specifically, the J2901A is particularly effective in testing full duplex networks at Gigabit speeds and is well suited for determining whether switches have been properly configured or to identify collision domains within large-scale automated manufacturing processes. Due to its hardware-based design, the J2901A does not tax the host processor's resources and therefore may be taken into the field. When combined with the Keysight Advisor platform's deep packet inspection capabilities, real-time statistical reporting, and programmable traffic generation capabilities, the Keysight/Agilent J2901A undercradle provides a powerful diagnostic tool for analyzing today's industrial Ethernet infrastructure.
