Keysight/Agilent J2905B ISDN BRI S/T and U Interface Module
The Keysight J2905B is an interface module that slides into an Advisor Mainframe and provides all capabilities needed to perform ISDN BRI S/T & U testing (including monitoring, simulation, call origination, and BER test), all from a single portable instrument. The J2905B was designed specifically for network engineers and industrial automation technicians and will connect to either the four-wire S/T reference point or the two-wire U loop. This removes the requirement for multiple adapter configurations when qualifying Digital Subscriber Lines (DSLs) at the local loop.
Using the Advisor Platform, the J2905B performs real-time D-Channel decoding at Layer 2 and Layer 3, providing access to Q.921 and Q.931 signaling along with X.25, HDLC, and PPP encapsulated over bearer channels. A user may generate BERT patterns on individual B-channels or aggregate links to measure errored seconds and clock slips for SLA and CIR validation. The J2905B includes an ISDN B-Channel Call Tracking EXPERT that will correlate Call Setup Events, Channel Allocation, and Teardown Events to speed up Fault Isolation for Mismatches due to Switch Type or Signaling.
Operating from 50 bps to 52 Mbps, the J2905B offers both BRI and lower-rate PRI emulation within this range. Dual Simultaneous Analysis enables the J2905B to test an ISDN circuit while another undercard simultaneously inspects frame relay, ATM, or Ethernet streams—a key capability in industrial automation environments where legacy ISDN teleprotection, SCADA backhaul, and remote telemetry coexist with modern IP networks. The statistical monitoring tools provided include Top Talkers and Line Vitals to enable rapid utilization and physical-layer health checks; traffic generation and simulation stress-test terminal adapters, NT1 units, and PBX trunk cards. For commissioning and lifecycle maintenance of ISDN-dependent infrastructure, the J2905B compresses a comprehensive protocol analyzer into a portable, efficient form factor.
