Keysight/Agilent J2914A STM-1e/EC-3 Module for the Keysight Advisor
The Keysight J2914A module allows users to tap into 75-ohm intershelf paths at central office distribution frames, providing direct electrical connections to the Keysight Advisor Analyzer. In doing so, this enables users to capture sensitive, non-invasive taps of both SDH STM-1e and SONET EC-3 signals. As a result, users are able to support both framed standards. Therefore, the Keysight J2914A is useful as a universal tool in the testing of mixed-infrastructure environments that have a mix of older legacy SDH and newer SONET equipment.
This J2914A provides several automated test programs that allow the user to automatically test their network during the initial configuration phase. These test programs will automatically create full-rate ATM traffic; they will automatically test for policing parameters; they will automatically check to ensure that all virtual circuits are functioning properly while checking all other virtual circuits; they will capture all packet flows (i.e., PoS) at full-line-speed rates; they will decode IETF and Cisco HDLC variants; and they will timestamp each event based upon the time elapsed since initialization (at 100 nanoseconds).
All these features enable users to perform detailed diagnostics necessary to trace intermittent synchronization faults that could potentially shut off industrial controllers from communicating. Statistical graphs provide visual representations of peak link utilization and show how many packets were transmitted per protocol address. This information enables engineers to determine which applications consume the most bandwidth.
In addition to performing statistical analyses on bit streams, the Keysight J2914A measures physical layer properties of lines, including automatic logging of line state changes along with precise timestamps, pulse amplitude measurements to determine if installed lines meet specifications, and BERTs for determining bit-error rates on SDH, SONET, and ATM layers prior to putting critical automation links online.
The Keysight J2914A also provides an automated ATM service audit, providing a list of all active VPI/VCI values along with their corresponding adaptation-layer types. Users need only glance at the list to determine whether any given circuit carries real-time control data or background file transfers. The Keysight J2914A also conducts ping tests to validate round-trip latency for ensuring continuous operation. A simple-to-use Windows 98-based graphical user interface using icons makes it easy for field technicians to rapidly transition between various signal analysis, traffic monitoring, and basic diagnostic functions.
