The Keysight/Agilent J3447A 100 Base FX Interface Module allows users to have access to their J3446D Fast Ethernet Advisor through a dedicated fiber port, eliminating the necessity for an external transceiver when working with 100Base-FX-based systems. By integrating the J3447A into the Advisor, the number of possible points of failure within the diagnostic process is reduced, allowing engineers to quickly diagnose fiber-based LAN segments. The J3447A interfaces directly to the rugged, portable Advisor platform, which uses a Windows 98 interface and contains a 486 processor. It has all necessary features to perform a full seven-layer protocol decode, generate traffic, and provide an engineer with vital information regarding the health of a network, thus enabling engineers to anticipate and solve issues prior to impacting the uptime or performance of the network.
Network engineers can utilize the J3447A to connect their advisor directly to multimode fiber links in industrial backbone networks, campus-wide connections, and legacy process control networks. The J3447A seamlessly integrates into the Advisor's feature set (including the ability to automatically identify the source of a problem using the Expert Analyzer, trend baseline data using the Network Vitals tool, and guide troubleshooters using Commentators) while providing real-time statistical data, packet captures, and performance metrics from both 100 Mbps fiber links and copper ports without requiring any changes to software configurations. Technicians can easily confirm signal quality, measure latency and determine if there are any intermittent faults occurring on either copper or fiber ports in order to resolve issues efficiently.
Within industrial automation environments, the J3447A provides significant value to plant personnel responsible for installing and supporting fiber optic Ethernet links used for communication between Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Distributed Input/Output (I/O) modules, and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI). Plants utilizing 100Base-FX for electrical isolation and noise immunity will use the advisor's passive monitoring and active traffic generation capabilities to verify the deterministic nature of fiber optic communications and throughput levels prior to starting up production.
