Keysight/Agilent J4646A E1 Primary Rate ISDN Module for the Keysight Advisor
The Keysight/Agilent J4646A is a dedicated E1 Primary Rate ISDN module used with the Keysight Advisor Platform. The Keysight Advisor Platform is an important tool for performing testing, diagnostics, and testing of telecommunications. The module captures information from E1 transmissions and uses unbalanced 75 Ohm BNC connectors. These are typical connectors found in most E1 transmission systems. Many industrial automation engineers and network technicians utilize this module for capturing and analyzing all layers of the OSI Model for primary rate ISDN communications. In addition to analyzing the ISDN communications, the J4646A provides extensive support for other communication types including PPP (Point-to-Point Protocol), Async PPP, and Multi-link PPP. As a result, engineers have the ability to analyze data link layer communications at a very detailed level. Additionally, the J4646A has a build in function for performing Bit Error Ratio Testing (BERT). With the BERT function, engineers can test the integrity and quality of E1 circuitry by measuring the bit error ratio while operating in either loop back mode or normal operation mode.
In the context of the Keysight Advisor Platform, the J4646A is a crucial interface for engineers who need to troubleshoot primary rate ISDN connections within the environment of a PBX connection, backbone telephone networks, and many older industrial control systems that require transportation over an E1 connection. Engineers will use the ISDN Module to find out why their signal was lost, to confirm if they have issues with their physical layer of their connection, and to ensure that multi-link PPP bonding configurations are working properly. The BERT capability allows engineers to determine if there are intermittent fault(s) occurring within their E1 circuit, which could be affecting the voice or data communications through their E1 circuit. The combination of real-time capture, protocol decode capabilities, and BERT capabilities provides engineers with a fast method to perform root cause analysis for problems related to E1 PRI circuits. The 75-ohm BNC connector interface allows direct connection to common telecom test access point interfaces without disrupting the operational flow of communications. Therefore, the J4646A is a viable method for ensuring reliable services in mixed TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) and packet-based networks where E1 circuitry continues to exist.
