Keysight/Agilent 1735A Fibre Channel Test Module
The Keysight 1735A has been designed as a multipurpose test module for Fibre Channel applications to allow validation of networks operating at speeds of 1 Gb/s, 2 Gb/s, and 4 Gb/s. The 1735A performs protocol analysis functions and traffic generation and provides performance benchmarking on two independent port-pair configurations. In addition, the 1735A's reconfigurable firmware allows it to be configured in various test modes, thereby reducing the need for multiple analyzers and load generators within lab environments such as those used in development and interop labs.
When configured as a protocol analyzer, the 1735A includes two separate, full-duplex capture systems, which are supported by two separate 1-gigabyte trace buffers. These two trace buffers allow for time-correlated measurements from each of the two ports to provide the engineer with synchronous visibility into frame exchanges, link-state changes, and credit flows. A Hierarchical Trace Display also allows the engineer to quickly and easily drill down to the payload of frames, ordered sets, and primitives without having to manually decode these.
In addition to its capabilities when functioning as a protocol analyzer, the 1735A can also function as an active traffic generator and impairment tool via its SAN Tester application. Each port of the 1735A can generate wire-speed patterns, including valid data, deliberate errors, and fabric control primitives independently. Port state machines can be programmed by the user to simulate a wide variety of HBA (Host Bus Adapter) behaviors. Device virtualization allows for the simulation of up to 2000 nodes in a 2RU footprint. Real-time measurement of throughput, latency, frame loss, and buffer-to-buffer credit utilization can occur simultaneously with traffic generation, allowing for the identification of transient bottleneck conditions. Data plane testing combined with simultaneous fabric services testing will validate the response times of name servers, latency of state change notifications, and failover recovery sequences under load.
The 1735A can be easily integrated into the modular multi-user N2X chassis alongside existing Keysight 1730B & 1733A modules, thus retaining previously invested dollars. Test automation using standard TCL scripting will enable complex, repetitive regression suites. Traffic profiles may be created on multiple layers. Error injection may be controlled by the user. Detailed Link Error Counters for Loss of Sync and Disparity Faults will provide network equipment manufacturers and enterprise storage architects with a single scalable platform to certify switch, director, and adapter performance.
