Keysight/Agilent N5998A HDMI Protocol / Audio / Video Analyzer and Generator
The Keysight N5998A HDMI Protocol / Audio / Video Analyzer and Generator delivers a complete one-box solution for testing HDMI 2.1 source and sink devices through all stages of development, including research & development, compliance testing, and production testing. The combination of a high-bandwidth audio / video generator and capture engine with real-time protocol analysis enables the full characterization of 48 Gbps transport performance, including Fixed Rate Link (FRL) operation and Display Stream Compression (DSC), as well as the return channel (eARC).
As an audio/video generator, the N5998A can generate video test patterns at resolutions of up to 8K with deep color and HDR10/Dolby Vision metadata, also concurrently generating multi-channel audio such as Dolby Atmos and DTS-X. The unit generates CEC signals and simulates HDCP 2.3 encryption to simulate real-world applications. In addition to these functions, the unit supports FRL Training Mode to subject 48 Gbps links to extreme conditions to verify they meet performance requirements. The unit's Analyzer function can be used to analyze the compressed images captured by a display device using visual lossless compression, thus verifying that both the source and display are compatible in an automated test sequence environment.
When configured as an analyzer, the N5998A captures TMDS and FRL lane data non-intrusively and decodes information frames (InfoFrames), exchanges of EDID, status flags associated with SCDC, and eARC traffic to provide detailed protocol insight. Automated compliance suites perform physical layer and protocol tests against HDMI forum specifications to enable rapid certification. In addition to compliance, when configured in "Sink Emulation" mode, the N5998A allows the testing of source devices independent of a physical display, thereby decreasing fixture complexity in automated production environments.
Real-time pixel-level video analysis and bit error detection allow developers to quickly identify signal integrity issues. Factory automation will benefit from this product due to its ability to seamlessly integrate via a local area network (LAN) or universal serial bus (USB) remote control, allowing scripted test sequences to be executed during high-volume manufacturing. This product has been applied to automotive infotainment, digital signage, set-top box qualification, etc.—areas of application that require consistent HDMI 2.1 performance.
