Keysight/Agilent U3053C SerialTek Micro SAS/SATA Error Injector/BIST Generator
The Keysight/Agilent U3053C SerialTek Micro offers a single solution for an error injector (SAS / SATA) and a BIST generator, which may be operated as a stand-alone "signal blocker," real-time fault injector, or a SATA loop-back test sequencer. The U3053C operates over three speeds, namely 1.5, 3.0 & 6.0 Gbps. Two ports are available for independent license operation. A flexible port-by-port, license-by-speed, and license-by-protocol licensing model makes it possible to start up the system with no initial investment and grow the system as needed.
A unique characteristic of the U3053C's error injection engine is its capability to introduce both random and fixed line errors in real time. In addition to introducing errors to individual primitive frames and payload in real time, the error injection engine introduces CRC faults and 8b/10b encoding faults into live traffic. These types of errors simulate those encountered by customers in the field and are the most difficult to recreate; once these faults have been introduced into traffic, they enable designers to develop exact error recovery techniques in HBAs, expanders, and drive firmware. As such, designers can emulate the rare events experienced by their customers and accelerate the development of hardened firmware and validate that all storage systems will fail gracefully rather than silently corrupting data.
In SATA BIST mode, the U3053C enables a host or device to enter loopback mode and transmit standardized test patterns for physical layer validation. When paired with a Keysight BERT and a U3051C Frame Error Rate Counter, this instrument represents a compliance station commonly employed for SATA design certification of the physical layer integrity of storage subsystems. With the combined measurement of bit-level and frame-level integrity, this compliance station further reduces testing time. Additionally, when paired with a SerialTek BusXpert Protocol Analyzer, the U3053C allows captured disturbances injected via the Error Injector/BIST Generator to be timestamped with less than 2 ns accuracy. This ability allows developers to see how physical layer glitches propagate through protocols.
