Keysight/Agilent U4995A MHL Protocol Test Point Adapter (TPA)
The U4995A from Keysight (formerly from Agilent) is an MHL protocol test point adapter designed to convert Mobile High-Definition Link signals for comprehensive protocol evaluation in automatic testing environments. The adapter is designed to support bi-directional MHL to HDMI conversions and allows engineers to test source and sink devices, including phones, tablets, displays, TVs, etc. With the ability to be used in conjunction with Keysight's U4998A Protocol, Audio and Video Analyzer and Generator, it creates a compliance testing environment that is strictly based upon the MHL CTS v1.2. Embedded test fixture designers can utilize the U4995A as part of their test setup to provide a consistent signal conversion from mobile device output(s) into QA workflows without distorting the protocol.
Each U4995A adapter kit has a specialized MHL cable with a micro-USB connector at one end and an HDMI Type-A connector at the other, therefore creating a direct connection between the DUT (device under test) and the measurement system. Since there are no external converters required for signal conversion in either lab or production environments, there will be no degradation of signal integrity. As a fully transparent bridging solution, the U4995A will maintain high-speed differential signal fidelity while the accompanying U4998A analyzer generates and captures the stimulus and responses for MHL protocol compliance verification.
With a combination of programmatically generated MHL compliance scripts running on an automated validation system utilizing the U4995A & U4998A modules, repeated evaluations of MHL protocols can occur (i.e., initialization of links, HDCP handshake, and negotiation of video formats). In high-volume manufacturing processes, this type of configuration provides a means to perform continuous unattended regression tests and ensure product consistency with minimal need for human intervention. Engineers also use this adapter's conversion capabilities to debug interoperability issues when developing embedded systems enabled by MHL (automotive infotainment systems/digital signage). While Keysight's larger MHL testing portfolio covers physical layer and cable testing, the U4995A focuses specifically on protocol compliance testing, providing a complete MHL product certification validation platform.
