Keysight/Agilent U4998A Protocol/Audio/Video Analyzer and Generator Module
The Keysight/Agilent U4998A is an AXIe-based tool that combines HDMI (HDMI 1.4b) and MHL (MHL 1.2), both with audio/video analysis and generation within a single module to enable full-scale compliance verifications. Designed to operate at transition modulated differential signaling rates as high as 3.4 Gbps, the U4998A enables reliable support of 4K x 2K resolutions, 3D video, and deep colors/extended colorimetry. It has four gigabytes of memory for storing extended sequences. The analyzer and generator module utilizes dedicated software that allows users to perform automated test sequencing and can be controlled via a COM server for remote control. Users are able to evaluate all aspects of their devices, including pixel encoding, AVI info frames, audio sample packet jitter, and timing characteristics.
The U4998A makes testing against the official HDMI compliance test specification easier by providing a convenient means for testing both source and sink devices. As an example, when performing tests as a source, the U4998A will execute tests 7-16 through 7-19 and 7-23 through 7-40, while as a sink it will execute tests 8-16, 8-21, 8-23, 8-29, and 8-31 in conjunction with an E4887A TMDS signal generator for test 8-25. In addition, the U4998A provides complete MHL CTS coverage of TMDS coding, video modes, and/or audio measurements for source devices, along with sink and dongle system testing, video, and/or audio testing to ensure complete readiness prior to certification.
In addition to executing mandatory compliance suites, the U4998A provides optional passive monitoring capabilities (pass-thru/mirror) to allow real-time viewing of HDMI traffic without disrupting the HDMI link. When combined with the N5998U-DBG option (available separately), the U4998A expands its capabilities to provide engineers additional tools to help them quickly identify root cause issues during product design and manufacturing.
The U4998A replaces the legacy N5998A product line and works seamlessly into current test systems utilizing either an M9502A, M9505A, or U4002A AXIe chassis, along with a compatible host PC running Windows XP or Windows 7. The Keysight/Agilent U4998A's modular architecture also enables the ability to add an optional MHL protocol upgrade, thereby providing customers with a flexible tool for testing multimedia interfaces in products such as set-top boxes, displays, etc.
