Keysight/Agilent J2912B STM-1/OC-3 Module for the Keysight Advisor
The Keysight J2912B STM-1/OC-3 Network Analysis Module is a single-slot, portable analyzer interface intended to support the commissioning, testing, and sustaining of 155 Mb/s ATM and SONET/SDH circuitry. It will accommodate both single-mode and multi-mode SFP (Small Form Factor Pluggable) modules for ease of use in various environments and allow for quick service activation. The J2912B provides technicians with many features such as full-rate traffic analysis and optical power verification in addition to the ability to quickly identify problems related to physical-layer and/or protocol-related issues on mixed SONET / SDH and ATM networks.
The J2912B can capture and decode at full line-rate packet-over-SONET/SDH, supports Cisco HDLC and IETF RFC 2615 encapsulated formats, and has pre-written test scripts that can be used to stress-test policing and Quality Of Service (QoS) parameters. In this mode, it can simulate the entire bandwidth load while also tracking all ATM VCs (Virtual Circuits). As a result, there is high confidence when performing service turn-ups. Automated audits can discover all active VPI/VCIs, determine the adaptation layer encapsulation method and type of service being carried, and identify any unused or incorrectly configured connections. All these functions help reduce the time needed to identify faults. The onboard buffers are able to capture data at full-line rates and provide 100 nsec timing stamps so that the technician can preserve loss-free data for root cause determination and for accurate jitter measurement.
In terms of physical-layer diagnostics, the J2912B includes an optical power meter and line status indicators, which time-stamp service interruptions. Also included are Bit Error Rate Tests at the Section Layer of SONET/SDH and Cell Layer of ATM to verify transmission integrity. Additionally, ping tests are performed to confirm connectivity and measure round-trip delay. Trending statistical graphs display peak utilization and top talkers by Layer 3 address. Overhead Byte Analysis allows technicians to locate alarms. A Windows 98-based graphical user interface makes operating the Advisor easier than ever before. The combination of hardware features and software tools makes the J2912B ideal for field technicians and network operation center (NOC) engineers who need to perform STM-1/OC-3 service turn-ups, SLA compliance, and troubleshooting of mixed ATM and POS networks.
