Keysight/Agilent M9800A PXIe Vector Network Analyzer
The M9800A from Keysight/Agilent is a fully modular PXIe vector network analyzer (VNA) used to characterize RF devices over a 9 kHz – 4.5 GHz frequency span. Each M9800A performs a rapid 201-point sweep in an incredible 2 milliseconds; it has an excellent 140 dB dynamic range; and its S-parameter traces have very low noise (<0.0015 dB RMS). Additionally, the maximum output power is 10 dBm, and the typical temperature coefficient is 0.005 dB/°C—both providing consistent results in manufacturing environments as well as laboratory settings. As a PXIe-based product, Keysight’s M9800A provides extremely fast data transfer rates through the PXIe bus. These higher data transfer rates significantly accelerate the speed at which you can perform real-time tuning of your RF components (i.e., cabling, connector, and antenna).
Each module of Keysight/Agilent’s M9800A is designed to provide a true multiport VNA configuration. It allows users to configure their VNA with either two, four, or six test ports. In contrast to other PXIe switchable multiport solutions available on the market today, the device does not degrade the quality of the S-parameters when increasing the number of test ports. Therefore, Keysight’s M9800A is ideal for testing multiport passive components, balanced differential circuits, amplifiers, mixers, frequency conversion circuitry, etc. Moreover, the VNA also supports n-port error correction and electronic calibration to simplify calibration operations—thereby reducing the amount of time required to test products during manufacturing processes.
The M9800A utilizes the same measurement techniques as Keysight’s bench-top VNAs (PNA and ENA), making it easy to correlate measurements taken in R&D with those measured in production. Furthermore, the model shares a common software environment with Keysight’s bench-top VNAs. As a result, many advanced applications are available for use on Keysight’s M9800A, such as spectrum analysis, pulsed-RF measurements, signal integrity testing, etc. For industrial automation engineers, Keysight’s PXIe form factor makes integrating the M9800A into automated test systems simple and straightforward. This integration enables dense multiport RF testing while maintaining accurate measurement capabilities.
