Keysight/Agilent M9834A PXIe Vector Network Analyzer
The Keysight M9834A, also found under the legacy manufacturer Agilent, is a modular vector network analyzer with an operation frequency band of 10 MHz – 20 GHz that can be used to characterize RF subsystems including T/R modules and multiport front-end assemblies. With its combination of S parameter testing, noise figure measurement capabilities, and modulated signal analysis, it eliminates the need for multiple network analyzers, signal analyzers, and switch matrices for each individual test configuration. Due to the configurable two-port test set and built-in noise receivers, the Keysight M9834A enables the single-connection characterization of very highly integrated parts, making it easier to implement R&D and production test configurations.
Keysight reports a system dynamic range of 146 dB and trace noise as low as 0.0015 dB RMS, enabling good insight into the behavior of even small variations of device characteristics. Also, due to its temperature stability of 0.005 dB/°C and output power of up to +18 dBm, the Keysight M9834A provides stable measurements under thermal variations and, at the same time, when measuring active devices. Additionally, a full sweep over 201 points takes place in only 1.4 ms, which enables high throughput manufacturing of RF front-end modules, beamforming networks, and satellite communication payloads. The Keysight/Agilent M9834A is scalable from minimal benchtop use with two ports to large multi-port systems on a single chassis without having to re-engineer the entire test architecture.
The built-in noise receivers of the M9834A are capable of characterizing the noise figure directly; therefore, external down converters are usually not required for many component-level tests. Users can utilize Keysight's modulated measurement software to obtain measurements of wideband parameters including Error Vector Magnitude (EVM) and Adjacent Channel Power Ratio (ACPR). An interactive wizard guides users through the process of performing advanced wide-band calibration and measurement procedures in order to reduce user complexity. The M9834A's ability to combine multiple test functions into a single PXIe slot represents a significant cost savings over traditional methods where each function would have represented a separate capital expenditure. Additionally, this combination significantly simplifies the automation of complex system level testing and accelerates time-to-insight during both the Design Verification phase and Volume Production phases.
