Keysight/Agilent M9148A PXI RF Multiplexer
The Keysight M9148A is a 1x8, 50-ohm PXI RF multiplexer module intended for routing of RF signals in automated test systems and industrial measurement equipment. As an example of its capabilities, the M9148A provides a single-pole eight-throw switch architecture contained within one PXI slot and allows for bidirectional distribution of RF signals to 3 GHz. Additionally, each channel path on the M9148A has been impedance-matched to 50 ohms to provide consistent transmission line characteristics and minimize reflections within high-frequency environments.
The M9148A provides quality, easy-to-use snap-on SMB connectors for engineers to make cable connections without degrading their electrical performance. At 3 GHz, the multiplexer has a typical insertion loss of 1.2 dB. Therefore, signal attenuation will be minimized as the signal passes through the multiplexers' switching fabric. Additionally, its VSWR is also minimized to provide maximum signal fidelity during critical RF measurement applications. In addition, isolation between channels is greater than 42 dB at 1 GHz. This means that cross-talk can be eliminated or greatly reduced when multiple test signals are routed through the multiplexer.
In industrial automation and production test applications, the M9148A supports fast switching times with an open/close time rated at 3 milliseconds. This rate provides significant value within high-throughput manufacturing environments where rapid reconfiguration of test sequences is required. Furthermore, the relay contacts have been specified to operate reliably using a continuous DC operating voltage up to 30 VDC. The relay contact current rating is 1 ampere, and the RF power handling capability is 10 watts. These capabilities allow use of the multiplexer in either low-level signal routing or moderately high-level switching applications. A long service life is also provided with a typical relay endurance of 10 million cycles when continuously switching load levels below 100 mw.
The M9148A is compatible with most software development languages, such as C, C++, C#, and MATLAB. Software developers may also develop programs using LabView and/or Visual Basic. Because of its software programmability and integration into Keysight's Connection Expert and Soft Front Panel applications, the commissioning time of the multiplexer has been significantly reduced. The Keysight M9148A is typically deployed in RF component characterization, wireless device testing, and multi-channel signal monitoring applications where precision and repeatability of switching are required to obtain accurate results.
