Keysight/Agilent M9024A PXIe High Performance System Module
The Keysight/Agilent M9024A PXIe System Module is installed in the system slot of a PXIe chassis to provide a high-bandwidth connection via a Gen 3 PCIe cable to an external host PC. The 3-slot-wide module is a 3U card that uses two adjacent controller expansion slots; there are two x8 iPass connectors, which may be configured as one x16 connector, providing a link at 16 GB/s, or two separate x8 links, each providing a link at 8 GB/s. There are integrated I/O's available on the front panel of the chassis—two gigabit Ethernet ports, four USB 2.0 ports, two USB 3.0 ports, and a GPIB interface, which allows the engineer to attach peripheral instruments directly to the chassis, thus avoiding the requirement to have multiple cables routed back to the PC.
For multi-chassis systems, the dual x8 configuration allows for daisy chaining without having to use an instrument slot. In this case, one end of the cable will be connected to a host adapter such as the Keysight M9048B, and the other end will be connected to a downstream chassis using modules such as the Keysight M9022A or M9023A. Alternatively, when used with an M9037A embedded controller, the M9024A allows for connecting multiple chassis together. To obtain the highest single chassis speeds of 16 GB/s over an x16 link, the M9024A requires a Gen 3 x16 host card (Keysight M9049A) and X8 cables (Y1202A/Y1203A). These cables support a passive cable length of up to 2 meters. On the front panel of the M9024A, there are three LEDs indicating power, presence, and PCIe generation: Solid Green = Gen3, Blinking every 2 seconds = Gen2, Blinking every 1 second = Gen1.
The M9024A can be used for several common applications, including semiconductor verification, RF parametric testing, and data acquisition with large numbers of channels when a user's PC is controlling PXIe instrumentation. Centralizing all the various connectivity options (PCI Express, USB, LAN, GPIB) makes it easy to integrate this into your rack environment while also making cabling easier to manage. Additionally, by consuming 16–18 watts and operating at temperatures ranging from 0 °C – 55 ° C, the Keysight/Agilent M9024A will make it very easy to use it in both bench-top and/or rack-mounted configurations.
