Keysight/Agilent M9165C 2X8 PXIe Switch Matrix
The Keysight M9165C is a PXIe solid-state 2 x 8 full crossbar switch matrix that covers from 300 kHz to 18 GHz. It fits into a single PXIe slot and has two inputs and eight outputs. The Keysight M9165C was designed to be used with Keysight M980xA Series PXIe VNAs to form a scalable multiport system that allows for multi-DUT testing and large antenna array tests (such as those for 5G massive MIMO) by removing the need for manual reconnection. It also functions independently as a standalone RF switch matrix in automated test systems, allowing the user to route any of the inputs to any of the outputs.
Inside the Keysight M9165C, only two of the RF paths are active at any given time. When an active port pair is selected, that pair will pass signals while all of the inactive ports are terminated into 50 ohms to provide high isolation. At lower frequencies, the Keysight M9165C provides greater than 90 dB of isolation; at higher frequencies (up to 18 GHz), this value drops to approximately 80 dB; however, the isolation still sufficiently limits crosstalk in densely populated ATE environments. Insertion loss starts out less than 4.3 dB throughout 1 GHz and then increases slowly to just over 16 dB at 18 GHz. This insertion loss is symmetric across both sets of ports. Active-port return loss of the Keysight M9165C is managed so as to ensure signal quality for the entire specified frequency band.
Using solid-state switching technology in the Keysight M9165C allows you to rapidly actuate the switches and, as such, reduce your overall test times and maintenance costs due to the very long cycle life of the switches (billions). Temperature compensation built-in ensures stability of the device regardless of whether it is being run on a lab bench or a factory floor. Host computer commands are accepted via an onboard decoder, and users may access the M9165C either through the provided soft front panel or IVI commands, reducing the complexity of integrating it into automated test sequences. Overall, fast switching combined with long lifetimes greatly reduces total test costs.
The full-crossbar configuration of the Keysight M9165C allows for flexible routing reconfiguration of signals without changing hardware, making this matrix a cost-effective base for multiport-VNA applications and general-purpose RF switching in R&D and production testing.
