Keysight/Agilent M9405B PXIe Amplifier Module
The Keysight M9405B is a miniature and versatile RF amplifier intended to fit inside PXIe test platforms. This unit is built to fit in one rack space using only two slots in a 2 RU enclosure. The M9405B offers a high degree of conditioned signal amplification (amplifier gain) from 2 GHz to 20 GHz with average small-signal gain levels of 35 dB. The amplifier's small signal gain is also flat within ±2.5 db. The M9405B was engineered by engineers building automated test systems requiring a reliable software-controlled gain block that will fit into crowded instrument panels while still delivering usable RF output capabilities. Due to its solid-state design, the amplifier has a 1 dB compression point of 28 dBm and maximum output power of 30 dBm. This allows the M9405B to drive mixers, antennas, or other downstream components in a signal chain without causing distortion. Also, this module has a noise figure of 5 dB and input/output return loss values of 10 dB to ensure signal fidelity across all swept frequency tests and wideband stimulus-response evaluations.
In addition to providing a repeatable and calibrated gain stage for automated validation/production testing, the Keysight M9405B is used in radar target simulation, electronic warfare threat generation, satellite transponder loop testing, and 5G device characterization. Consistent amplitude and low phase deviation are critical elements when performing these types of tests. The M9405B can be commanded to operate through either an easy-to-use soft front panel or using standard SCPI command sets. The SCPI commands allow for the M9405B to easily interface with existing test executive software such as Keysight PathWave or custom Python/C# applications. Placing the gain block within the PXIe chassis eliminates the cables and calibration problems associated with external benchtop units, thus reducing test station size and improving measurement repeatability.
The M9405B is capable of operating continuously over a temperature range of 0°C to +40°C with all specifications established at a controlled ambient temperature of 25°C. Therefore, it may be used on continuous production lines. With minimal slot usage available, there is ample room remaining in the same chassis to add vector signal sources, analyzers, and switch matrixes to create complete multi-parameter test stations.
