Keysight/Agilent M9407B PXIe Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) and Filter Module
The Keysight M9407B Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) offers a low-noise path to your receivers’ measurements. It includes a low noise amplifier (LNA), switching, and filter bank all contained within a single 2-slot PXIe form factor. This module will cover a continuous frequency range from 1 GHz to 20 GHz. The LNA will amplify weak signals, and the filter bank will reject unwanted harmonic & spurious tones. The M9407B was designed to be used as part of the Keysight Analyzer System, consisting of the M9408B Reflectometer and the M9804A PXI Vector Network Analyzer (VNA). This allows the analyzer to increase its dynamic range.
The M9407B has two operational modes. Bypass Mode routes the incoming signal directly to the connected VNA’s receiver input. Filter Bank Mode utilizes the LNA and the user-selectable bandpass filters. When operating in Bypass Mode, the M9407B does NOT add any attenuation to the S21 or S12 measurements, allowing for full bidirectional transmission. When operating in filter bank mode, the incoming signal will be both amplitude-enhanced by the LNA and filtered using one of three band-pass filters. These filters target a specific subband of the 1 GHz to 20 GHz measurement spectrum, removing unwanted out-of-band signals, resulting in cleaner and more accurate results.
All front panel connections (NF IN port to reflometer; SRC/NF RCVR port to VNA RX input) allow you to connect the M9407B’s NF IN port to a reflometer and the SRC/NF RCVR port to the VNA receiver input. This configuration provides a lower system noise floor for measuring low gain or high attenuation devices. All mode & filter selections are controlled through the soft front panel, and remote control is provided via the instrument driver or SCPI server. No external RF routing hardware is required due to internal switching between bypass & filter modes.
In automated test systems, the M9407B connects to a PXIe chassis along with other modular instruments. Typical applications include validating front-end modules, antenna testing, and any type of receiver chain measurement where an enhanced signal is required. Due to its compact size & direct connection to the PXI chassis, it minimizes cabling requirements while providing fast swept frequency & power measurements without having to use external LNAs or filter benches. Users may automate all functions using SCPI commands, incorporating this module into larger test sequences.
