Keysight/Agilent M9451A PXIe Measurement Accelerator
The Keysight M9451A is a single-slot PXI Express measurement accelerator that utilizes an Altera Stratix V FPGA combined with 4GB DDR3 memory as the core component of the RF PA / FEM characterization and test reference solution. With the addition of option DPD Digital Pre-Distortion & Envelope Tracking Gateware, it can perform complex signal processing on the module itself, freeing up the host processor time and reducing test times for power amplifiers and front-end modules in 5G and wireless infrastructure by greater than twenty times when compared to previous software-based methods.
Built specifically for Envelope Tracking (ET) and Digital Pre-Distortion (DPD), the Keysight M9451A is capable of performing both open-loop and closed-loop linearization utilizing a configurable look-up table (LUT) model that has an adjustable point count from 2 to 256 points and adjustable polynomial curve fitting order from 3 to 12. The Keysight M9451A also provides the user with key figures of merit such as AM-AM, AM-PM, and D-EVM. Additionally, the integrated gateware will accelerate the process of generating envelope tracking waveforms and provide fractional delay, oversampling ratio, magnitude scale, and envelope reference voltage controls to enable users to configure their devices to meet their specific testing requirements.
The Keysight M9451A's Peer-to-Peer (P2P) PCI Express architecture allows for direct data transfer between the accelerator, the Keysight M9381A Vector Signal Generator, and the Keysight M9391A/M9393A Vector Signal Analyzers. This allows for complete host intervention latency bottleneck elimination, thus allowing for complete DPD coefficient extraction, application of pre-distorted waveform, and delivery of results in tens of milliseconds with total cycle times less than 70 ms; this represents a >20X speed improvement over previous host-bound solutions.
The Keysight M9451A package includes the PXIe module with IVI driver and soft front panel along with the optional DPD software library and FPGA gateware. The programming interface is very similar to that of the N7614B signal studio for power amplifier testing, making code migration much easier. The Keysight M9451A supports waveforms up to 4,194,304 samples and flexible ET parameter scaling, addressing high-volume production testing needs while maintaining Keysight’s precise measurement integrity.
